Dr. Collin Smith is a proud native of San Diego. He was raised in Encinitas and graduated from La Costa Canyon High School. He became interested in medicine and surgery while on a surf trip to El Salvador as a teenager. Another surfer was severely injured in a car accident and required emergency trauma surgery. With a weathered Salvadoran sidewalk serving as the makeshift operating room table, he assisted a close family friend (and surgeon) in saving the man’s life. A spark was ignited in him that day.
Working hard toward his goal of becoming a surgeon, Dr. Smith first earned his bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience at Brigham Young University in Utah. After volunteering at multiple medical facilities and shadowing doctors of various disciplines, he discovered the highly specialized field of Podiatry. He was soon accepted to Midwestern University Medical School in Glendale, AZ, and was awarded the 4-year Director’s Scholarship. After earning his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine Degree, he was selected into the highly regarded 3-year residency program in Reconstructive Rearfoot and Ankle Surgery in Albuquerque, NM. There he received advanced training from renowned doctors in all areas of Podiatric Medicine.
